The 2011 Governor’s Weight Loss Challenge has now started. Team Captains please remember to record your team's weekly weight every Friday, beginning January 21, by clicking on the Record Your Team's Weekly Weight link below. You will have until Tuesday of each week to record the weight for the previous week.
We have also provided a worksheet as a tool to assist the Team Captain in recording each team member's weight.
It is not too late to register your team, but remember the longer you wait, the less time you will have to participate in this 12-week challenge.
Governor's Challenge Guidelines and FAQs
The Goal?
Lose 10 pounds in 12 weeks of the challenge. Participants will form a team between one and ten people and support each other with weekly weigh-ins, emails and other help offered through CommonHealth. This should be done by developing healthy eating habits and an appropriate fitness routine.
Who Should Participate?
All state employees are encouraged to participate. This includes part time, full time, wage or salary.
How Do I Get Started?
Each team will need to select a team captain who is responsible for gathering each person's weekly weight loss total and entering it into the newly improved system.
Be creative with you team names, but remember what team name you entered.
Any size team is welcome. There is no minimum or maximum number on a team, so even a single person can join in the fun. However a larger team is harder for the Captain to manage.
The goal is for each participant to lose 10 pounds in 12 weeks.
Can anyone be the team captain?
Yes, but keep a few things in mind. It should be someone who can easily contact each member of the team in order to get their weekly weights. Weekly weights will need to be recorded every Friday so the Captain should have access to a computer each Friday.
How Does It Work?
The challenge begins January 17
Weigh-in and report on Friday each week. January 21 will be the first weigh-in. Team Captain will report the group weight.
Final weigh-in is on April 8.
Can I do this on my own if I can’t find anyone else who wants to participate?
Absolutely! We realize that some of our smaller agencies might find it difficult to form teams of four as was required last year. As a result we have removed that requirement and individuals may choose to form their own team.
Can I belong to more than one team?
No.
Do I have to weigh in front of my team?
NO. You should check your weight each week on your own and report it to your team captain. To ensure accuracy, it would work best if you weighed yourself on the same scale each week.
What happens if someone from our team drops out or doesn’t lose any weight?
In order to be fair to all of the other teams we can’t allow a new person with an entirely different weight to join a team in the middle of the process. However, the team will still be allowed to continue. Just continue to use the person’s last reported weight each week. For instance, John weighs 195 pounds after the 4th week but doesn’t report his weekly weight to the captain anymore. Simply continue to use 195 pounds each week for John’s weigh in amount.
What does the team receive if we finish the Challenge?
A new body, increased energy, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, compliments from friends, family and coworkers, better sleep, a great sense of accomplishment, etc….
Why Participate In The Governor's Challenge?
Every year, many vow to lose weight and to switch to healthier lifestyle, but it is not an easy task and many give up or fail to find success. The support of a team and CommonHealth can make the difference!
It is FREE, but still an investment for YOUR future!
So get excited and start planning for your team now. Remember, the biggest loser is actually the biggest winner!
