Ryan Hogge

Biography

I grew up in The Hampton Roads area of Virginia, specifically a small town named Smithfield, VA. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2011 with my B.S. in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Richmond, VA where I received my M.S. in Health and Movement Sciences from VCU.

A lot of my career has been centered around the field of personal training / strength and conditioning, but I have also been a part of many successful wellness campaigns in the private sector. I hold certifications from governing bodies such as, The National Strength and Conditioning Assoc., Precision Nutrition and The American College of Sports Medicine. In my spare time I love to follow Hokie athletics and lift weights whenever possible.

Why did you choose health education as a career field?

It’s an area that allows me to be well versed in many different fields, from exercise science to disease prevention. It also is a career where your work directly affects the lives of others.

What do you love most about your job?

The personal interaction I get to have with my agencies. If they have a problem or need education in a specific area, I can develop a personalized seminar to discuss a topic they are interested in and hopefully answer some questions along the way.

Do you want to share with your agencies?

Of course, everyone should be active, but it all starts with what you’re ingesting. Make sure you are knowledgeable about the types and amounts of food you are putting into your body. Then you can move onto being active in both a resistance and endurance based program.
