Amy Moore

I grew up in Shenandoah County and lived/worked in Virginia all of my life. I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Exercise Science and Community Health Education. I was a graduate teaching assistant at VT from 1993-1995 and earned a MS in Community Health Education. I've spent most of my career in a clinical setting (Valley Health in Winchester, Prince William Hospital in Manassas, a private dental office in Haymarket and Fauquier Health in Warrenton). I hold several group exercise certifications including SPINNING, Yogafit and Zumba. In my spare time, I play indoor and outdoor volleyball and enjoy riding with my husband on his Harley.

Why did you choose health education as a career field?

I chose health education because of my love for science, medical information and athletics. The fact that I could combine all three was a dream come true.

What do you love most about your job?

I think there's nothing better than helping people make lifestyle changes that improve their quality of life. It's so exciting to watch someone get a spark in his/her eye when they realize that it is possible to make a change for the better.

What do you want to share with your agencies?

The myth that if you do enough crunches, belly fat will melt away. The truth is to lose belly fat, you should increase your cardiovascular exercise and modify your diet.

I'm so happy and proud to be part of the CommonHealth team again! I look forward to reuniting with Agency Coordinators that I met in 2008 and meeting agencies that I didn't have in the past.
